Religious Education Registration
At this time of the year, I look back on some of the highlights of our Religious Education Program. The children have gathered each week to pray together and to learn about the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The instruction they have received in religious education class has provided them with an environment to learn about Jesus, scripture, the Catholic Church, the sacraments and the liturgical year. It is our hope and prayer that their faith and knowledge are stronger because of this instruction.
This school year the students reached out to others during Advent and Lent. The second grade students made snack packs of specific items gathered with the help of their catechists to assist children in need in Bergen County. Their snack packs were distributed through the Office of Concern at St. Cecilia Church, Englewood. During Lent we started a dollar drive to help the boys and girls of a school in Haiti. This project was sponsored by the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. We collected over $200 for this project. Additionally, the seventh and eighth grade students wrote cards and letters for the holidays to veterans and retired Christian Brothers. The veterans are residents in Paramus, NJ and the Christian Brothers are in Lincroft, NJ. Both groups welcomed the greetings that the students sent them. This outreach to others is part of what our religion teaches us in the Beatitudes and follows in the footsteps of Jesus as he reached out to help others in need.
My prayer during the months ahead is that we learn something new about our faith every day, not in some textbook, but in living with love the teachings of Jesus. As parents, you have the unique opportunity to assist your children as they grow in faith each day, particularly when you share the Eucharist with them at Mass each week. It is in the routine of our daily activities, loving and serving one another, that we learn more about our faith.
Enclosed please find our registration form to re-register your child for the 2019-2020 religious education year and to add a new member to our program. If you are registering a child for kindergarten or first grade, please include a copy of the baptismal certificate if your child was not baptized at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Please consider volunteering in our Religious Education Program or in our parish’s Hospitality ministry. A volunteer form is enclosed.
May we all draw closer to the Lord and to one another through a deeper and more faithful commitment to prayer, in private and with others, in communion with the sacramental life of the Church.
Sincerely in the Lord,
Sister Regina Chassar, ssj
