Of the many special things the Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel has to offer is how many opportunities parents have to get involved in their child’s educational and social experience. Whether you’re a full-time working parent or not, OLMC has a wide array of amazing moms and dads in its community. In this monthly series, Parent Profiles, we’re getting to know some of our all-star Warrior parents to learn a little about them and maybe inspire you to get involved! This month we hear from Parents’ Guild member Ms. Stacey Alberrici

What grade(s) is your child(ren) in?

My daughter Emma is in the 5th grade!

What is your profession or projects outside of OLMC?

I am a teachers assistant at First Presbyterian Preschool and Kindergarten in Engelwood.

How did you get started volunteering at OLMC?

When Emma started OLMC in first grade, I wanted to meet new families and get to know how OLMC “worked.” So, I went to PG meetings and signed up to help for events throughout the year. It was that easy!

What’s the most rewarding part of volunteering at OLMC?

The most rewarding is seeing the students interacting with each other and being a part of Emma’s “world” before she goes off to High School and doesn’t want me around anymore! LOL!

Why should others get involved?

Parents should get involved because its rewarding for the children AND the parents! Believe me when I say that the years your child goes to OLMC, go by so quickly so we are building life-long relationships.

Is there a funny, interesting incident or story that happened while volunteering at OLMC? or What’s your favorite thing about OLMC’s Academy?

FALL FEST! I love this event and missed having it last year! All the kids from OLMC come on a Saturday, stay for an hour or two OR stay the whole day, run around doing crazy activities inside and outside the school! I would be selling raffle tickets for all the awesome baskets that were donated, seeing the kids beg their parents for the basket that they “just had to have!” Its a great experience!

What would you say to the parent who feels they don’t have time or they are on the fence about volunteering?

If you are looking to volunteer at OLMC, attend a Parents’ Guild meeting, held once a month, right after drop off. This way you can find out about upcoming events that may interest you. This is a great way to sign up and give any suggestions you may have!  When volunteering you can sign up for a whole event or a hour here or there for all events. Every hand helping, helps out tremendously! Go Warriors!
