Middle School

Goal

The primary goal of the Middle School program of instruction at the Academy is to provide learning experiences in a Catholic environment that will assist the students in their religious, spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. 

Religion

Religious education at the Academy is dedicated to fostering a dialogue between Catholic intellectual tradition and all areas of contemporary culture through thoughtful reflection and academic research. Middle School students conclude their annual religion classes by journeying through the Hebrew Bible and concluding with the rich traditions of Catholic Social Justice.

Grade Level and Advanced Mathematics

Mathematics is a concrete science; its study is based in real phenomena from the physical and social sciences but increasingly in areas like English and the Arts are now informed by mathematics. Middle School students at all levels learn the everyday essentialism of math through an exact yet approachable curriculum starting with algebraic proportions and percentages, through pre-algebra and finally, for those students who are ready - algebra.
Language Arts and Grade Level and Advanced Reading

Middle School students are expected to master the basics of reading fiction and non-fiction books, learn deeper writing and grammar skills, and grow in their oral presentations, collaborations, use of technology, and the diversity and complexity of their reading choices.Social Studies

Beginning with Ancient Studies and working through US History while maintaining a strong background in geography and civics, students in the Middle School's Social Studies program are given historical content while understanding and analyzing current events in interpersonal ways.
