Dear Families,

The first month of school has flown by! Everyone has settled in and is back to work. I recently heard from Dr. Dames, Superintendent of Schools at the Archdiocese of Newark, that my interim position has been extended through June 2020. I want to thank you for all your support through this transition process. It is when we all work together that we can make things happen for those who matter most – our children! I am looking forward to continuing the on-going commitment that makes OLMC the great school that it is. With that being said, I ask you to continue to be patient as class schedules may need to be changed.

Interim Principal, Ms. Barbara Verdonck

As you know, the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Newark have used the Terra Nova Assessments and more recently the Iowa Assessment for standardized testing. Over the past few years the Archdiocesan Schools Office has been researching assessment programs that can provide teachers with data they can use throughout the year to improve instruction and to support each student’s academic growth. During the 2018-2019 school year, the Archdiocesan Schools Office piloted the NWEA MAP Growth online testing program. OLMC will begin using this assessment this year. I am excited about the transition to MAP Growth and know the information gained will strengthen the teaching/learning process at OLMC. Please see our website for more information on MAPGrowth.

There are a lot of exciting things happening at OLMC during this month. Please continue to visit our website for all upcoming events.

Once again, thank you for your continued support of OLMC.

Ms Verdonck

Interim Principal
