OLMC once again celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of activities. This year’s theme is “Hispanics: One Endless Voice to Enhance our Traditions,” has the OLMC community joining others in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
Grades 6-7 will be enjoying the award winning documentary, Buena Vista Social Club. The grades will be asked to watch excerpts from the documentary and analyze lyrics from “Dos Gardenia” y “De Camino a la Vereda”
A group of Grade 8 students have been reading the 19th century short story ‘El Matadero’ by Esteban Echeverría. A group of Grade 4 students have been analyzing the classic short story, ‘Un Señor Muy Viejo con Alas Enormes’, from Nobel prize winner (1982) Gabriel García Márquez. These students will be presenting their literary analysis.
Grades 1-5 will be building family trees (árbol genealógico) to reflect on the nuances of each family and how those differences impact us. Lesson will also expand on vocabulary 3 (‘La Familia’), and verb ‘gustar’ (I like).
We continue to extend a warm invitation to our parents and relatives to visit our Spanish classroom. We would like parents to share their story, heritage and overall life story with our students.
Early Childhood will be expanding on their Spanish lesson on colors and emotions by incorporating colors and making patterns. The exercise will foment color and shape recognition.
