The celebration in April of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day was at the heart of this project. Every student created a watercolor mandala about the animals that inhabit the earth, many of which are endangered. The final installation of the individual artwork was greater as a WHOLE.
Students in eighth grade created dynamic sculptures from common materials of coat hangers, foam cubes, nylon stockings, gesso and acrylic paints inspired by contemporary culture and art history.
Children in PK4 learned about warm and cool colors and the technique of collage. They were inspired by the colorful compositions of artist Gale Kaseguma and created their works with paint, tissue paper and glue.
First graders were introduced to Graffiti artist Keith Haring. They posed in active positions to get a dynamic silhouette. Freedom to be colorful and imaginative on the floor in large scale made for an exciting class mural.
Students in the 7th grade learned about the value scale and created drawings in graphite of domestic still life or simple 3-D shapes using all 5 levels.
Students in the 5th grade, using oil pastels, drew amazing banyan trees in blazing colors. The lesson was in the positive and negative space and color blending.
