There are only two writers who get birthday parties thrown for them in Mr. Guerra’s reading classroom. In April, we celebrate the Bard, William Shakespeare’s birthday with cake and skits, but in celebration of Black History Month, and because she is one of Mr. G’s favorite writers — we celebrated Novel Prize winner Toni Morrison. While we’re not ready just yet to jump into her works we celebrate the Catholic writer (who lived in New Jersey, teaching in Princeton) by watching a film clip on her love of language and the power of books and eat carrot cake (her favorite.)
