The Grade 2 students celebrated National Johnny Appleseed Day on September 26 by learning about John Chapman, who planted the first apple trees in America. In Social Studies, students used maps to trace Johnny’s journey through Pennsylvania, Indiana and Ohio. In Reading, they explored facts vs. opinions about Johnny’s life. In Math, they cut up apples and used the seeds to compare, add, and subtract. In Religion, they discussed Johnny’s love of nature and his humility, exemplified in his prayer: “I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need: the sun and rain and apple seed!” Check out the photos!
