The students in the Middle School have been exploring different forms of poetry as part of OLMC’s celebration of National Poetry Month. Last week they gave new life to old books. Every year, thousands of unsold books are pulped to make, among other things, more books. Well this year, the middle school students got their hands on books that were going to be pulped and gave them new life. The students wrote and created, erasure poems. Erasure poetry, also known as blackout poetry, is a form of found poetry wherein a poet takes an existing text and erases, blacks out, or otherwise obscures a large portion of the text, creating a wholly new work from what remains.
