This week, class 1B learned about African-American artist Faith Ringgold, who created colorful quilts to tell stories.  Some of her quilt stories have been turned into children’s books.  We read her book TAR BEACH, based on her childhood in a NYC building overlooking the George Washington Bridge.  In art class, students created their own quilt squares depicting a favorite memory, inspired by this book.  The paper squares were attached to make a memory quilt. This month, the students also wrote and presented reports on their favorite saints and famous African-Americans.
