Dear School Administrators, Teachers and Staff,

This letter comes simply to express gratitude to each of you for the way in which you have responded to the current crisis and the need to make the shift to remote learning.

The past two weeks have probably been the most exhausting in your career as an educator. The move from in-person learning to remote learning took place in the blink of an eye, and a week or so before most of us imagined it would become a reality. In addition to making this seismic shift in your “educator life”, you also have to manage major changes in your personal and family life. What you are doing is nothing less than amazing!

The dedication, professionalism, and adaptability of the educators in the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Newark is beyond impressive. The efforts you are making to keep students connected as you continue to facilitate their learning reflects the best of Catholic education. The inclusion of prayer and reflection nurtures the spiritual well-being of our students and their families at a time when faith is so very important.

Pope Francis’ “Urbi et Orbi” reflection, delivered in St. Peter’s Square on March 27th, reminds us that Jesus is in the storm with us. “The Lord asks us and, in the midst of our tempest, invites us to reawaken and put into practice that solidarity and hope capable of giving strength, support and meaning to these hours when everything seems to be floundering.” As we approach Holy Week and Easter, we are reminded of the hope that comes from embracing the cross of Jesus.

On behalf of the Schools Office staff, I thank you for all you are doing to continue to bring faith and learning to our students and their families. We pray for you, your families, all affected individuals, first responders, and especially those on the front lines. Let us continue to be strengthened by our faith and find hope and comfort knowing that Jesus is with us.

Sincerely,
