Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know, we are in a unique curriculum setting, and we are striving to use technology in ways that will assist learning situations and prepare students.  The Academy’s information technology resources, including Internet access, are provided for educational purposes only. OLMC students, teachers, and staff use Google Apps for Education to allow students to collaborate on school projects, communicate with their teachers and continue learning regardless of their location. One of the best ways to learn is through conversations and real-life dialogues. Google Hangouts is one of the Google Apps that we are using in the classroom. As stated in the Handbook, we would like to remind you these accounts are used for OLMC school purposes, not personal. Students should use Google Hangouts (Meet and Chat) for class and should not be using them without teacher supervision. The Google accounts are considered school property and are monitored.  Again: students know they should be used for school purposes only as we have repeatedly discussed this in their technology classes.

We understand your children miss each other and enjoy the ability to interact. However, this online communication can not be done using their school-assigned accounts. We would encourage you to help them set up meets and chats using their personal accounts and with your supervision.

Talk to your children about values and the standards they should follow on the use of the Internet just as you do on the use of all media information sources such as television, telephones, movies, and radio. Please note that at home, students may have access to items that are blocked by the district’s network.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Barbara Verdonck, Interim Principal
