The Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is committed to making and sustaining lifelong and strong readers as the iRise program is already underway at OLMC this Fall! iRise or Independent Reading Inspires Students Everywhere is a program that commits at least two class periods of instruction a week (on top of the normal literature course) to independent reading. Our Academy wide reading initiative will span all ages and grades, and whether its classics or contemporary– novels or poetry OLMC Warriors will be able to read and then share their thoughts through technology by blogging and sharing their insights into the exciting stories they are reading.

Independent Reading
OLMC Warriors will be learning the time and care it takes to build strong and good reading habits. How to "unplug" from the everyday hustle and bustle and plug into the world of literature.
Students Engage in Small Groups
Through answering guided essential questions in monitored small groups, students learn how to verbally communicate what their reading experience was like with others.
Students Maximize Technology
Students in every grade level will be using technology, promoting good digital citizenship and promoting positive social online experiences. Younger students learn words and meanings, older students blog their experiences!
